Now that the big day is over it’s time to start thinking about the next step in your married lives, the honeymoon. There is no better way to round off the hard months of wedding planning then feeling the soft, warm sand between your toes as you run into the idyllic turquoise sea, hand-in-hand with your new husband. Or, would you prefer to learn how to become an elephant mahout on a jungle-clad Thai island? Or even getting down and dirty with the locals and staying in a rustic rural homestead, to create some truly unique memories that will last a lifetime?

“That’s the beauty of your honeymoon; it is all yours and you can make it whatever you want it to be. No two couples are quite the same, and your honeymoon should be as unique as you,” says Sylvia Ysidron, a travel consultant at SellOffVacations.com. “These days, more and more fantastic resorts are springing up, teasing you with their enticing infinity pools and inviting spa rooms, making it harder and harder to decide where to go.”

“I peel back the curtains of my two-storey villa, and feel that same rush I did on Christmas morning as a child,”

says_____________, ”through lush foliage, I can see vivid turquoise waters lap the whitest of white sand steps from my door. I stagger into the blinding sunlight, plunging straight into the languid sea.”

Is she talking about a white sand beach in Hawaii? Maybe she’s referring to the world famous Turlte Island in Fiji. You might be surprised to find out that she is actually talking about her honeymoon in Maldives.

The Maldives is an exquisite far-flung island nation resembling scattered emeralds floating in the Indian Ocean, southwest of the Indian subcontinent.

There's no way around it: it's an epic hike from Australia, at least two flights and a boat ride – making it just that bit harder, more exclusive and more tantalising. For many travellers it's an once-in-a-lifetime destination, a honeymoon hotspot, while surfers dream about its barrels and long fun waves.

“Yes Naladhu, comes with a heftier price tag than others in this list but we think it’s worth every penny and if you don’t believe us, take a peek at this video, which is sure to leave you drooling. Naladhu is nothing short of incredible,” says ______________, “an open air bathroom with a swimming pool in it is just part of the package you can expect to receive – along with the super romantic hanging swing chair for two on the veranda. It’s homely yet opulent and includes Butler Service. If you’ve got the wallet, look no further folks.”

Celebrities have sung the praises of The Maldives – Fergie (of The Black Eyed Peas) announced that she 'finally knew what the word paradise means,' after she and her husband spent their honeymoon there. Prince WIlliam and Kate even chose the Maldives as one of their romantic getaways, staying at one of the incredible luxury resorts which have helped The Maldives secure a top place as one of the world's ultimate romantic getaways.

“However don’t let the praise of the elite stop you from looking into cheaper options, which are always available,” says Ysidron.

So, there are a few ideas to get you started, no go on and book your romantic honeymoon to any of these locations and we guarantee you’ll want to book a second honeymoon soon.
